My Gen Con reading list.
Reblogged purely to make Amanda smile.
This is the best thing that was ever made so just turn off the planet now because we can all go home. Thank you, it’s been a great show.
slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, fire, cold, thunder, necrotic, etc…
I give bonus and penalties for damage types is they are relevant in the situation but I don’t make it a big part of my game. But I do love disappointing players who try to shoot arrows at skeletons.
Doctor Who and Star Wars fans clash at sci-fi convention
Norwich Evening News: Police were called to a British sci-fi convention following reports that rival fan-clubs had become involved in a violent dispute.
A group of visiting Doctor Who fans were reportedly arguing with a local Star Wars enthusiasts’ club at the Norwich Star Wars Club event, held in the University of East Anglia, police said. But after talking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV police officers said no actual assault took place.
More than a dozen sci-fi fans from both groups – including several in fancy dress – were involved in a bitter exchange outside the venue. It was allegedly sparked over a disagreement involving someone asking Doctor Who actor Graham Cole for an autograph.

Spell lists.
Anyone who has written a game that includes a long list of spells or powers is a hero. I have attempted top write my own RPGs several times and each time I have stalled when it is time to write out the spells. It is such tedious work.
We are not living in the future. We live in the awkward adolescence of the future.
In recent weeks we have seen the release of Google Glass into the wild and the first fully 3D printed gun. The gun looks like less than a toy and I’m embarrassed for anyone who thinks that Google Glass is a viable means of being connected.
At this point in consumer technology, our ideas are vastly ahead of what we can do, let alone what we can afford. Google Glass is not the next step in technology that we want it so badly to be. It is not the cyberpunk heads-up display that we dream of. It’s just a small cell phone strapped to a head. And at this point cell phones are still just small computers with radios in them.
My mind still boggles when I think of the world in which my child will come of age. The technology will be astounding and will surely turn me into a clueless old man. But, like the early Eighties are to me, I have no doubt that my kid will view the early 2010’s as a time when technology was primitive and often times used for stupid applications.

The famous 1984 anti-Dungeons and Dragons comic, Dark Dungeons, is now coming to video! We’ll show just how evil RPG’s can be!
Back this Kickstarter project because it is glorious.
Remember, playing D&D is hazardous to your health and can make you gain real life magic abilities
Based on reading the Kickstarter, this is going to be a work of satire. A glorious work of satire.
From the Kickstarter page:
..all you really need to know is that it sets out to show what Jack Chick knows to be the truth behind role-playing. It shows that;
*Playing RPGs can make you gain real life magic abilities
*If you gain a high enough level you will be invited to join a secret cult
* Gamers whose characters die are in danger of committing suicide.
* That DM’s are vile temptresses that are out to corrupt their players to the forces of evil.
